MeMadeMay 2019 day 4
“MeMadeMay (2019) day 4. Finished these pants literally yesterday. They are a total hack job on the inside because I graded them FAR too big, worked on them while depressed, threw them in a corner long enough that I couldn’t remember which way was the front, then hacked and slashed until I got what I wanted. They’re real weird in the crotch for that reason. Also, hey, what’s with the taped up fingers? They’re a cautionary tale against using a seam ripper pointed towards you. I ripped the entire web between those two fingers open. Yum.”
Oh, my ugly snowflake pants. They were Simplicity 8246 from 1969. I’d like to say that I miss them, and from a purely aesthetic standpoint, I kind of do. But they were a mess, and extremely uncomfortable to wear and as such, they have the distinction of being the only garment I’ve ever made that I threw in the trash (while still ostensibly viable. I’ve thrown out a few things that got moth-eaten in a rage, but one could maybe argue that I might have been able to salvage these with enough time and expertise. I did try though, and I wasn’t getting anywhere good, so… into the bin they went.) In another universe, one where I didn’t epically screw up both this piece and its matching ugly snowflake tank, I imagine that they’re getting plenty of wear as a really obnoxious set, paired with the blue Styled by Terry blouse that I now own that coincidentally would have matched really well…
Also, I still have a scar between those two fingers. I sliced them open, threw everything on the floor, stuck my hand in the kitchen sink, and wrapped everything up with paper towels and spike tape. Later that night, I had to perform a fan dance which… as you can imagine, requires the use and flexibility of your hands. I’m proud to say that I didn’t bleed all over my fans. For the record.
We took these photos outside of The Perfect Cup on Damen because I made Kenneth walk to the CVS at Damen and Lawrence with me to go buy actual sterile gauze to pack into that gnarly wound.
As always, if you’re new to the blog, or to MeMadeMay, you can read my overview here!
