“MeMadeMay (2019) day 13. I’ve stuck through almost 2 weeks, y’all. This is the *other* blouse I made from Rifle Paper Co. fabric from Harts Fabric and… it’s a mess. The pattern was from 1953 and substantially less clear on instructions, with respect to the other blouse I made from this fabric. Whatever. It’s wearable.”

This was Simplicity 4238, as mentioned from 1953. And it was, indeed, a mess. The instructions didn’t really make it clear, on first blush, that the facing and the button band were all sort of one thing, and I didn’t have a whole lot of fabric to speak of after I made the first blouse anyway, and (because I wasn’t as picky about only buying patterns within a specific size range at the beginning) I had to do slightly more resizing than I would have liked. …Which then went completely out the window, because of the aforementioned issue with the facing and button band being a singular thing. …Basically I added an inch to the front which subsequently got entirely consumed by the facing/button band situation, so it ended up being hilariously tight.

I did end up culling this piece from my wardrobe, but I can’t even actually tell you what happened to it. It either went to the Village Discount outlet in one of the NINE GARBAGE BAGS of clothes that I got rid of during the pandemic, or it ended up in an Ampersand sale.

“MeMadeMay (2019) day 7. Yes, a repeat already, but with regular jeans today. I have a few other things I could have chosen, but I had an art modeling gig this morning and wanted something I could just toss on and run out the door. This top is a little short for modern cut jeans, so if I did this again, it would be with one of my higher-waisted pair.”

This is, again, Simplicity 2759 from 1949. This truly is one of my favorite patterns to make, a second version shows up in my wardrobe in 2020, and I’d definitely make it again (with a few modifications). As I mentioned in the original post, they are a little short for modern jeans and, though I don’t really own any modern cut jeans anymore, I would probably add between a half inch to an inch to the bottom hem in the future. There is also another view that has a sort of strange standing collar which I am intrigued by, but it’s difficult to think about making that version as the sort of sweetheart neckline is one of my favorite parts of the ones I already have. In either case, I have spent the last couple of years amassing a sizable collection of vintage cottons, and though I have numerous other vintage blouse patterns to pair them with, this is the one I always keep coming back to and thinking about.

“MeMadeMay (2019) day 1: The pants are my favorites from Voodoo Vixen, the top is vintage Simplicity 2759 from 1949. This is easily the easiest thing I’ve ever made from a vintage pattern, and also my favorite thing, which means I’m digging through my stash figuring out if I can make it again in other colors. Fabric for this one was Rifle Paper Co. from Harts Fabric.”

Ahh, this is the day that started it all, evidently. Over the years, I have given myself a few parameters within which to function, but in 2019 we were just getting our feet wet, and it was hard enough to come up with outfits for all 31 days. These photos (like most of the rest from this first year) are taken on Rockwell, just south of Beans and Bagels.
